Puerto de La Cruz / La Orotava

El Puerto de La Cruz is located on the north coast, La Orotava is slightly further south towards the mountain. It takes only 10 minutes to drive from one place to the other.

I would say that La Orotava and La Laguna are the most beautiful areas in Tenerife, keeping their traditional houses and famous wooden balconies. Orotava is certainly worth a visit and a stroll around the streets.

In El Puerto de La Cruz, enjoy a walk along the seafront and stop to have a swim in the Lago Martianez (pool complex with sea water pools, lakes, waterfalls, beautifully landscaped gardens, restaurants, bars and cafes).

Other places to see and things to do:

  • Jardin Botanico in El Puerto de La Cruz (Botanical Gardens)
    Calle Retama, 2
  • Mirador de Humboldt (Humboldt viewpoint)
A stunning view is offered over the Orotava valley to the north-west coast. The Mirador has a very special historical background. It was Alexander von Humboldt who once referred to Tenerife as the "Blessed Isles of the Elysian Fields".

Beaches

  • Playa Jardin (Puerto de la Cruz)
Black sand beach. It is the main beach of Puerto de la Cruz. It's OK!
  • El Bollullo
Black sand beach. Very beautiful. Getting there by car is not that easy as the roads are very narrow. You have to walk about 10 minutes at the end and can park at the restaurant for a fee. It’s best to only go during the week as on weekends it’s very busy with locals.
